Care & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning:

  • After each use, clean thoroughly with warm soapy water and a clean cloth.
  • Dry with a soft clean cloth.
  • Allow residual surface moisture to air dry before reapplying food grade mineral oil or Shine & Shield Wood Balm.
  • Store in a perfectly flat area on its feet or standing it up on its side to prevent warping.

What to avoid:

  • Never put in the dishwasher.
  • Never soak or submerge in water.
  • Never let any liquid stand on the board for long periods of time.
  • Harsh detergents or chemicals (Never use bleach).
  • Do not use a steel brush or steel scrubbers on the surface.
  • Extreme temperature changes.
  • Do not use in the microwave, oven or any other device that creates heat.
  • Avoid any direct sunlight as it may cause fading or darkening depending on the type of wood.
  • Avoid placing hot pots on the board.
  • Never cut continuously on the same surface area. Distribute your cutting over the entire work surface so it will wear evenly.
  • When conditioning the board do it on all sides and edges. Constant one sided application will let the dry side breathe more than the conditioned side. This can cause warping.
  • Never use edible type oils to condition your board (olive oil, vegetable, sunflower etc.) as they spoil and get rancid.
  • Do not leave any metal objects on the surface for any length of time as dark stains may form due to a chemical reaction between the wood's natural tannins and the metal.
  • Avoid placing objects with rubber or plastic feet as it may cause permanent discoloration of the wood.
